I’m offering 12 portrait commissions over the next year, one for each month of rent.

You’ve no doubt heard about skyrocketing rents in San Francisco—it makes news almost daily. Studio space is alarmingly expensive, and even though Arc, the building my studio is in, has struggled to keep costs down, they go up every year. My rent is now $885.

Determined to stay and keep working, I’m continuing my annual version of a rent party.

So, for $885, less than half of my standard portrait commission, I’ll do a painted portrait, roughly 8″ x 10″ to 12″ x 12″ of you or a loved one. (Or someone you can get to sit for me, whether you love them or not.)

The process is different for each sitter I work with, but typically we meet for two or three casual sketching sessions in my beautiful, sunny studio; I’ll also take photos.

Then I’ll do two paintings, and you can choose which one will be yours. I’ll handle framing if you like.

If you’re uncomfortable with the idea of sitting and being stared at, we can work from photos only. But I do better work, and know your workings better, if we do at least one live session.

Think about the holidays! (They’re coming faster than you think.)
